XEOMIN
Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS XEOMIN?
XEOMIN® (incobotulinumtoxinA), pronounced Zee-Oh-Min, is a prescription medication (similar to Botox) injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkles. Neuromodulators are also indicated for medical use, such as treatment for migraines, TMJ disorders, and excess sweating.
WHERE IS XEOMIN COMMONLY USED?
Crow's feet (fine lines at the corners of the eyes)
Eyebrow asymmetry
Sagging or creasing of the forehead/brow area
Drooping at the corners of the mouth
Frown lines
Marionette lines
Lip creases (upper and lower)
Gummy smile
Excessive cleft chin or "peach pit" chin
Facial scarring
Horizontal and vertical neck creases
Wrinkling on the décolleté (chest)
Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)
HOW DOES XEOMIN WORK?
As an example, when you squint or frown, the muscles between your eyebrows contract, causing the skin to furrow and fold. Over time, as your skin ages and loses some of its elasticity, these repeated contractions can cause persistent facial wrinkles. Botulinum toxin type A acts on nerve endings in muscles to prevent muscle fibers from contracting, thereby reducing these contractions and temporarily reducing wrinkles.
WHEN CAN I EXPECT TO SEE RESULTS?
You may begin to see visible smoothing as early as 3-4 days after injection. The median first onset of effect was less than a week. The maximum effect occurred at 30 days. The typical duration of effect was up to 3 months in clinical trials but may last significantly longer or shorter in individual patients.
WHAT IS THE COST OF XEOMIN?
The cost depends on which product is chosen and the total amount of product used. When you come in for your initial consult, we discuss treatment goals and can usually give you a good idea of how much product you’ll need and the corresponding cost. We do not accept insurance.
YOU WOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED A CANDIDATE FOR NEUROMODULATOR THERAPY IF:
You are allergic to XEOMIN® or any of the ingredients in XEOMIN® (human albumin, sucrose).
You had an allergic reaction to any other botulinum toxin products such as rimabotulinumtoxinB (MYOBLOC®), onabotulinumtoxinA (BOTOX®, BOTOX COSMETIC®), or abobotulinumtoxinA (DYSPORT®).
You have a skin infection at the planned injection site.
XEOMIN® is not recommended if you have a disease that affects your muscles and nerves (such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis [ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease], myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome).
Safety during pregnancy or breastfeeding has not been established but use of this product while pregnant or breastfeeding is not recommended.
